John Clark Mills died on December 24, 2025, in Salem, Oregon, at his retirement home, surrounded by many of his family. His loved ones are grateful to Willamette Vital Health for their compassionate care and support during his final days.

Born on June 9, 1947, in Glendale, California, to Jeanne and Jack Mills, John was raised in La Cañada. He shared close bonds with his siblings Carolyn Greeley and Richard Mills, both of whom preceded him in death. He is lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law Kathy Mills; nephews David and Bradley; niece Carolyn; and many extended family members. John remained connected to his roots, often visiting La Cañada, Carlsbad, and Twentynine Palms.

After graduating from La Cañada High School, John served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On May 4, 1970, he married Elisabeth Svendsen. The couple later moved to Oregon to be near friends and complete their education. They embraced life in the Pacific Northwest, often exploring its beauty together in their VW camper van.

John earned his degree from what is now Western Oregon University. He began his career as a teacher before founding a successful concrete contracting company serving both residential and commercial clients. He was an active member of the Salem Homebuilders Association and Creekside Golf Club, where he formed lasting friendships.

A man of deep faith, John was a longtime member of Judson Baptist Church, Salem Alliance Church, and Westminster Presbyterian Church.

He was a devoted father to Rachel (Kirk) Seyfert, Andrew Mills, and Sarah (Dave) Pluister; and a proud grandfather to Emma, Olivia, Jack, and Henry. He supported them wholeheartedly and cherished every moment spent with them.

A family interment service will be held at a later date at Willamette National Cemetery.

John lived a life grounded in faith, family, friendship, and service. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
