4/26/2022:  Mike,  As you may know, Laine had several long term bouts of cancer over the past many years. The immediate cause of her death was a massive stroke. As a result, she was completely paralyzed on one side of her body. Combined with the residual damage to her body from cancer, she had great difficulty visualizing going forward without being able to care for herself to some degree or enjoy life as she had know it. She had composed very careful instructions to her advocates as to no extreme measures being taken in the case of such an event occurring. As a result, after the prognosis became clear, she declined both liquids and solid food until nature took its course. From the stroke, to her death was only about 3 weeks. Fortunately she had peaceful hospice care with family and friends in a beautiful location at the end. Her Celebration of Life is May 21st.

This was a severe loss for all of us.  She and I had been good friends for 60 years! The stroke happened just before Christmas. She was due to retire at the end of the year. A group of us who are all turning 75 years old had just completed arranging our celebration, which was to be held at Yosemite...
